Best Time to Visit Uttarakhand

Every season brings a different face of Dev Bhoomi — here's how to choose the perfect time for your Uttarakhand adventure.

Uttarakhand by Season

🌸 Spring & Summer (March–June) – The Most Popular Season

Weather: 15–30°C in hills, 25–40°C in plains. Snowmelt begins, days get longer, skies are mostly clear.

Best for: Char Dham Yatra (opens April–May), trekking, hill station visits, rafting, camping. Rhododendrons (buransh) bloom in March–April — the hills turn red and pink. Valley of Flowers trek opens in June.

Peak crowd times: May–June — book accommodation well in advance for Char Dham belt.

🌧️ Monsoon (July–August) – Lush but Tricky

Weather: Heavy rainfall. Landslides on mountain roads. Temperatures: 15–25°C in hills.

Best for: Valley of Flowers (July–August is peak bloom), Nanda Devi area, Jim Corbett wildlife (Jhirna zone open). The hills are intensely green and beautiful.

Avoid: Char Dham area (road closures), high-altitude treks (slippery, poor visibility). Check road status before travel.

🍂 Autumn (September–November) – The Best Season

Weather: 10–25°C in hills. Crystal clear blue skies. No rain. Best Himalayan visibility of the year.

Best for: Everything — trekking, Char Dham (September–October before closing), wildlife safari, photography, cycling. The Himalayan views are sharpest. Char Dham closes in October–November.

Avoid: None. This is the ideal Uttarakhand season.

❄️ Winter (December–February) – For Snow Lovers

Weather: -10°C to 10°C in hills. Heavy snow above 2,000m. Plains: 5–20°C.

Best for: Skiing at Auli (January–March), winter trekking (Kedarkantha, Brahmatal), Haridwar/Rishikesh pilgrimage (temples open), snow photography.

Avoid: Char Dham areas (temples closed), Munsiyari (road blocked), most high-altitude treks.
