Complete Chaukori Travel Guide
Top Places & Activities
Chaukori Tea Estate (KMVN): A working tea garden at 2,010m — one of India's highest commercial tea gardens. KMVN manages both the tea estate and the tourist bungalow adjacent to it. Tea walks through the plantation, tea tasting and purchase. The green tea garden against the Himalayan snow peaks is one of the most striking landscapes in the Kumaon hills.
Himalayan panorama (Panchachuli and Nanda Devi): Chaukori's north-facing ridge gives clear views of the Panchachuli massif and Nanda Devi range. The Himalayan sunrise from the KMVN bungalow terrace or the ridge viewpoint is the main reason to spend a night here. Clearest October–November and March–April.
Haat Kalika Temple (4 km): An important goddess temple in the region — the presiding deity of the Gorkha and Kumaoni military tradition. The temple is set in a forest clearing with mountain views. The Haat fair (autumn) is the major local festival.
Berinag (8 km): A small market town and viewpoint with its own tea estate — the Berinag tea garden produces notable Kumaon black tea. The view from Berinag ridge is similar to Chaukori and is a pleasant half-day excursion.

FAQs
- Is Chaukori worth a separate visit or just a route stop?
- Chaukori works both ways. As a standalone 1-night destination for the Himalayan tea garden experience and Panchachuli views, it is excellent — and the KMVN bungalow's location in the tea garden makes it one of the nicest place-to-stay experiences in the Kumaon hills. As a route stop to Munsiyari, it breaks the long journey (480 km from Delhi) perfectly. Either way, arrive before sunset to see the peaks.
