Who is the deity at Yamunotri?
Goddess Yamuna Devi — black stone (shyama shila) idol. Flanked by golden Ganga idol. Yamuna is daughter of Surya (Sun god) and sister of Yama (god of death). Temple built by Sudarshan Shah, King of Tehri Garhwal (19th century). Rebuilt several times after earthquakes.
