8:00 AM: Depart Mussoorie by private taxi or shared cab toward Dhanaulti (₹500–₹800 return for private cab; shared jeep from near Library end ₹80–₹100 per seat). 45-minute drive.
9:00 AM: Dhanaulti Eco Park 1 — 1 km forested loop in deodar and rhododendron forest. Entry ₹60–₹80. Adventure rides available (rope bridge, Burma bridge ₹50–₹100).

1:30 PM: Optional extension: Continue 9 km from Dhanaulti to Surkanda Devi temple (33 km from Mussoorie, at 2,756m). A 2.5-km trek from the road leads to the hilltop temple with extraordinary 360-degree views of the Himalaya. Trek time: 60–75 min each way. Entry: ₹20 for the path maintenance fee.

Budget, Hotels & Travel Tips
- For the 3-day itinerary, stay central: Library end hotels give the best access for Day 2's western itinerary (George Everest, Clouds End) and Day 1's eastern (Kempty). Kulri-area hotels are better if you prioritise Mall Road access.
- Day 3 taxi: The Dhanaulti day trip requires a private cab or shared jeep. From near Mussoorie Library, shared jeeps to Dhanaulti run in the morning — ask locally for timing and departure point. Private taxi round trip: ₹600–₹900.
- Surkanda Devi extension: Only attempt if you're reasonably fit and the weather is clear. The trek is not technical but gains 450m of altitude on a rocky path. Starts from the Kadukhhal road (taxi can drop at trailhead). Carry water.
FAQs
- Is Dhanaulti worth including in a Mussoorie itinerary?
- Yes — Dhanaulti is Mussoorie's best nearby extension. At 2,286m it's higher and much quieter; the deodar and rhododendron forests in the Eco Parks are outstanding in October–November and March–April. The 45-minute drive along the ridge is scenic. If you have 3 days, Dhanaulti is the best use of the third day. The Surkanda Devi trek from Dhanaulti adds a trekking and pilgrimage dimension that makes the day more varied and memorable.
- Can I do Surkanda Devi and Dhanaulti in one day from Mussoorie?
- Yes — comfortably. Dhanaulti Eco Park takes 2–3 hours; the Surkanda Devi trek from Kadukhhal (9 km beyond Dhanaulti) takes 2.5–3 hours including the 2.5-km walk each way. A full day (8 AM–5 PM) from Mussoorie covers both with a lunch stop. You need a private vehicle (the driver waits at the Surkanda trailhead while you trek). Pack water, snacks and wear sturdy shoes for the rocky path to the temple.
